All 52 cards are dealt face-up into 8 columns. You can see every card right from the start! The 4 empty spots in the top left are the free cells. The 4 empty spots in the top right are the foundations where you build your winning stacks.
Move all 52 cards to the 4 foundation piles in the top right. Each pile is built by suit, starting with the Ace and going up: A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K.
You can move more than one card at once if you have free space. The number of cards you can move at once equals: (empty free cells + 1) × 2 for each empty column. For example, with 2 empty free cells and 1 empty column, you can move up to 6 cards at once.
You win when all 52 cards are on the four foundation piles. FreeCell is special — almost every deal can be won! If you get stuck, use the Undo button and try a different plan.
Each free cell holds only one card. If you fill up all four, you have almost no moves left. Try to keep at least one free cell open at all times.
Try to build long stacks in order (like 9♥, 8♠, 7♦, 6♣...) so you can move them as a group later. A long ordered stack is very powerful.
An empty column lets you move up to twice as many cards at once. Think carefully before filling an empty column. Keep it empty as long as possible.
You can see all 52 cards from the very start. Take a moment to look at the whole board before you move anything. Find where the Aces are and plan a path to free them.
Unlike most card games, FreeCell is almost always solvable. If you go down a wrong path, press Undo and try a different approach. There is almost always a way to win if you keep trying.
